Overview / Case Definition

Psittacosis is an illness characterized by fever, chills, headache, myalgia, and a dry cough with pneumonia often evident on chest x-ray.  Severe pneumonia requiring intensive-care support, endocarditits, hepatitis, and neurologic complications occasionally occur.
